The main Campus, located in San Lorenzo district and near Termini central station, was opened in 1935 and is a masterpiece of Rationalism, designed by arch Marcello Piacentini. The main Campus hosts most of the 23 Faculties of Sapienza.

Sapienza carries out scientific research in various fields, achieving high standard results acknowledged both on a national and international level. Over 100 Departments and 30 Institutes are devoted to scientific research.
| Student life |
Sapienza belongs to students. Over 140,000 young people study here, 7,000 are foreigners and 1,000 Erasmus students. Sapienza students have always been active protagonists of all historical events, from the Risorgimento to nowadays.

Sapienza organises on a regular basis cultural, scientific, social activities. Academic year opens with a solemn ceremony. Aula Magna hosts a classical concert season. Sapienza boasts an orchestra, a choir and a jazz band (MuSa).
