Sapienza University of Rome has a new guest house located in Via Volturno in the city centre. The guest house comprises 38 rooms in all, including 19 single rooms and 19 twin-share rooms as well as 3 mini-apartments, one of which is designed specifically for disabled people. While the first residents of the Guest House are the students of Sapienza’s School of Advanced Studies, it intends on receiving many others including visiting professors and scientists, researchers, scholarship beneficiaries, doctoral students and technical/administrative staff from other Italian and international universities, if invited by University. It is also a prime location for hosting University events such as national and international seminars and conferences.
The guest house was inaugurated in conjunction with that of the Sapienza School of Advanced Studies in November 2011. The School is only open to high achieving high-school leavers, however both Italian and international students can apply. The School is designed to foster excellence through an interdisciplinary approach. Students accepted into the School will take part in seminars and workshops divided into four broad academic areas: Legal Sciences, Economic and Social Policy, Life Science, Science and Technology and Humanities. Students attend the School alongside their chosen degree programme enabling them to realise their full academic potential through an enriched cultural and scientific education programme. Given the necessary commitment, only students who graduated from high-school with a grade of 95% or more can apply. For the 2011-12 academic year, only 16 students throughout all of Italy were accepted. Students of the School of Advanced Studies benefit from free board and accommodation in the Sapienza Guest House.
An inauguration ceremony was held on Monday the 7th of November to open both the Sapienza Guest House and its School of Advanced Studies. Sapienza University Rector, Luigi Frati, symbolically handed the keys to the Guest House rooms to each of the School’s new students.
